The FortiGate Rugged range runs the same FortiOS in a hardened enclosure: fanless, extended operating temperature, DIN-rail or wall mount, and DC power input. Current models include the FGR-60F and FGR-70F. They are built for substations, factory floors, wellheads, roadside cabinets and vehicles, places where a standard desktop appliance fails on heat, dust or vibration long before it runs out of throughput.
Where it fits, and where it stops fitting
Environment decides the model here, not performance. Confirm operating temperature range, mounting method, ingress protection and power input first; those constraints eliminate most of the catalogue before throughput is worth discussing. Substation and rail deployments frequently require IEC 61850-3 or IEEE 1613 compliance; tell us the standard you are held to and it determines the model outright. Because these sites are expensive to visit, the cellular options and the central-management story matter more than the numbers: most rugged estates are large, remote, identical, and managed through FortiManager templates from day one.

FortiGate Rugged models run the same FortiOS in a hardened enclosure: fanless, extended operating temperature, DIN-rail or wall mount, and DC power input. They are built for substations, factory floors, wellheads, roadside cabinets and vehicles, places where a standard desktop appliance fails on heat, dust or vibration rather than on throughput.
The security case is specific to OT. Rugged models carry FortiGuard's industrial signature set covering Modbus, DNP3, IEC 61850 and similar protocols, which lets you write policy against industrial traffic instead of treating the whole OT segment as one opaque zone.
Because these are placed where a truck roll is expensive, the cellular variants and the management story matter more than the raw numbers. Most rugged deployments are managed centrally through FortiManager from day one.

Rugged estates are usually large, remote and identical. That is exactly the case for FortiManager templates and, if you would rather not staff it, DynaScale's managed firewall service.
