The FortiAuthenticator 300F provides single sign-on, RADIUS and LDAP authentication, certificate authority services, guest management and 802.1X for wired and wireless access. It supports 1,500 / 150 local and remote users, 500 NAS devices and 3,000 FortiTokens.
1,500 local users and 500 NAS devices. The NAS figure is the one people underestimate: every switch and access point performing 802.1X counts, so a campus with a few hundred access-layer devices can exhaust it long before the user limit is troubled. Count switches and APs, not just people.
How to work out whether it fits
The arithmetic a datasheet leaves out. If any of it does not match your situation, that is worth a call rather than a guess.
Count NAS devices before users. Every switch and access point performing 802.1X registers as one, so a modest campus with thirty switches and sixty access points has already used a fifth of the 500 available before a single person authenticates. The user figure is usually the comfortable one; the NAS figure is the one that ends the appliance's life early. Inventory the access layer, then choose.
